Well, Miss Claire has her Barney Zoo DVD which she likes a lot, but we bought that because she loves zoos, not Barney. She had a favorite episode saved on TiVo that she would watch, but that was all about a dog. She does like the music though (hence the CD so dear to your heart), and she will stop what she'd doing and pick up toys at the first sound of the "Clean Up" song... I guess we like the music, but she's not into the show if it doesn't involve real animals.
Mallory! This surprises me. We had to spend a good portion of our pre-teen/teen years listening and watching Barney with Lauren! (Lauren, if you're reading this, that's not a bad thing, but imagine being 13 and having Barney stuck in your head all day long!) I don't know that I could put myself through another half hour of it. Luckily, I'm at work when it's on. I'm sure I'll give it a try this summer when I'm on leave, I mean, I've already resorted to Playhouse Disney on the weekends, which I vowed I'd never do...
I must admit though, at Mom's tonight I did ask her if she still had Lauren's Barney CD. And she told me she did but I couldn't have it! :(
You girls better all be careful or I'll buy B and Luke Barney CD's AND videos and you'll never get it out of your head!

Okay, here I go. In the grand scheme of children's television, I actually like Barney. Put next to other non-cartoon kid shows, Bar. ney outshines them all. Let's see, we have The Doodlebops, Imagination Movers, The Wiggles, Mr. Rogers, and Sesame Street. The first three are just weird, weird, weird to me and I won't ever put the on, Mr. Rogers is incredibly boring, and although Sesame Street is educational, sometimes it seems too "PC" for me.
Barney, although not educational in the same way that Sesame St. is, is very values based. Every episode there is a lesson about how to treat others, manners, and just basic social norms that are important. Luke doesn't love Barney and it hardly keeps his attention, but after watching quite a few episodes I can't say anything negative about it.
As long as I'm listening to kids songs all the time anyway, Barney music isn't too aggravating. There's also something special to hear your own little boy sing "I love you..." and then to give you a big hug and kiss.
