...started early, with a loud THUMP at 5am. The child had fallen out of bed. He didn't go back to sleep.

I keep meaning to ask you how the transition to the big bed is going. Is this the norm lately?

We don't even have the crib set up, so yes, it is the norm. It's going pretty well. Bedtime is just the same, but naptime is a little tricky. I've been laying down with him to get him to stay in the bed, and it works most of the time. It's been a fast and easy transition, but it's not perfect yet.
