Is this thing on?

Confession: I can't fold a fitted sheet.

Can.not.do.it.to.save.my.life.

I want to be able to, and have looked up Youtube videos, read magazines with step-by-step instructions, and have even gone as far as laying my freshly washed sheet on my goldfish crumb-laden carpet to get the corners to line up correctly.

It's no use. Let's face it, I just end up rolling it up into a big, ugly ball every time, and there it sits taunting me as it spews out of the closet shelf.

Sorry Martha, I'm a domestic drop-out.

domestic drop-out you are NOT.

I don't know anyone who can successfully fold a fitted sheet. Anyone of our generation anyway. My mother?....she's pro. She's tried to teach me, but I just can't seem to get it right. My grandmother?....even better than my mom. Get this, she IRONS her sheets. She has for 50 years. Amazing.

Now who feels like the domestic drop-out? 2 generations of professional sheet folders and I just can't seem to get the hint.

Hmmmm.....

Okay, brag time...

Thanks to my very first job at everyone's favorite central Minnesota family resort (Ruttger's) I can fold fitted sheets!! I did housekeeping at 15 and sometimes they would need help in laundry so I learned to fold with the ladies. It is easier to do with a partner, but a few months into my marriage I decided it would be easier for me to learn to do it solo rather then continue trying to teach Justin!

Now I feel like a snot, so I'll make my own confession: I can't hard boil an egg, and I'm pretty sure that's easier then folding fitted sheets...

Ironing sheets, oh dear. I can't be bothered...but then again, people say the same about cloth diapers. Maybe I'll think to iron a sheet when my boys are grown and gone off to golf with daddy.....maybe...

Oh my goodness, Erin, I'm impressed!
Also, I was JUST remembering MAKING YOU hard boiled eggs when we lived with you. Mark and I have been trying eat healthier this summer, and I am sending him to work with---hard boiled eggs! I am a hard-boiling-aholic.

Do you want me to make you some...you could even lick the bowl ;-) .

you guys are awesome.
Erin, if it makes you feel any better, I can't hard boil an egg either. I have more misses than hits in that regard.

Oh how embarrassing that you remember the bowl licking! In my defense I believe I was pregnant at the time, or still nursing my 9 month old, or something else that can be explained by hormones!

Theresa, I'm relieved. You're the first person I've heard from with my same problem! My mother found this little egg boiler in some random catalog and she got one for my birthday a couple years ago. It seems to be Erin proof so now I make due without my live-in egg cooker!

It's a genetic defect. Sorry.

you are too funny...I can teach you...once you get it, you can do it in your sleep! Martha Stewart has another little helpful hint...she folds all her sheets and places them in a pillowcase...that way everything is neatly placed on a shelf and all together:) Mom S.

PS No "domestic dropout" could peal an entire apple leaving ONE single very long piece of apple peal behind, and I've seen you do it! ;-)

True, true. But, if you remember accurately, I believe that while I may have had one long apple peal, I had blood trailing from my finger. True story.

May I just say that I appreciate you writing about things you don't excel at. I have found myself feeling depressed lately after reading certain blogs because women seem to make their lives seem so perfect.. so well-kept.. so unattainable! And since I know you're a wonderful mom, it's nice to every once in awhile hear someone say "I'm not perfect either." You are a breath of fresh air!

Obviously, those "other blogs" are not for me. Goodbye blogs who make me feel like and inferior mama! :)

Thanks, Abby :-) . I echo your sentiments loud(ly) and clear(ly)!
